Career

He began his career at Manchester United, progressing through the club’s academy. He gained first-team experience by taking out a loan to Royal Antwerp and Sunderland. After that, he made his Manchester United first-team debut in the 2007-08 League Cup. He performed well and became a regular first-team squad member the following season. He played almost 200 matches for Manchester United, winning three Premier League titles, among a host of other honors. After eight years, he left Manchester United to join West Bromwich Albion. After spending three years with the team, he signed with Leicester City, where he won the FA Cup in 2021. He was released by Leicester City in 2023 and returned to Manchester United on a one-year contract. In Northern Irish football history, he is the second-most decorated player. He has played over 100 matches for the Northern Ireland national team and was ever-present in the team’s run to the round of 16 at UEFA Euro 2016.

Club Career

Jonny Evans has played many matches for different clubs and has proved himself invaluable to them. At 9, he was invited to attend the Manchester United Centre of Excellence in Belfast. However, before he was asked for a trial at Manchester United, a rule change within The Football Association limited clubs to recruiting players who lived within 90 minutes’ travel of the club, restricting Evans’ opportunities. Despite this, he trained full-time with Manchester United and progressed through the club’s academy.

Evans spent the first half of the 2006-07 season on loan at Manchester United’s Belgian feeder club, Royal Antwerp. In December 2006, he joined Sunderland on loan for the January transfer window until the end of the 2006-07 season, helping his team secure the Championship title. His outstanding performance earned him the club’s Youth Player of the Year award at the end of the season and a place in the first team.

On 29 August 2015, he joined Premier League club West Bromwich Albion for an undisclosed fee. He debuted for the club on 12 September 2015 in a 0-0 draw against Southampton and scored his first goal in a 2-1 victory over Stoke City. His exceptional play earned him the Player of the Season award before the season’s final game, a significant honor in his first season with the club.

In June 2018, he signed a three-year contract with Leicester City. On 18 August 2018, he made his debut for Leicester City in a 2-0 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers and scored his first goal for the club in a 4-1 defeat to Crystal Palace on 23 February 2019.

Family

Jonny Evans happily married Helen in June 2013. The couple has been together since then, leading a joyful life with their three children. Their oldest child, Lottie, is nine years old, followed by Heidi, 6, and their youngest, Eli, 3.
